L.A. Wiltz, Democrat, forcibly taking possession

L.A. Wiltz, Democrat, forcibly taking possession of the Speakers Chair in the Louisiana State House, Jan. 4, 1875. This was a planned usurpation of the leadership positions of the Louisiana House of Representatives. The minority Democrats ignored all parliamentary procedure as they forced through voice votes, followed by a display of pistols by men wearing Assistant Sergeant of Arms badges. The disorder ended when federal troops entered the chamber, removed the five illegally elected Democrats, followed by their colleagues. The Republican majority, stayed and continued the days business
