Lois de Lafayette Washburn gives a stiff-armed
Lois de Lafayette Washburn gives a stiff-armed salute. She and Howard Victor Broenstrupp leave Federal District Court April 17, 1944 where both were among the 42 rightists indicted Great Sedition Trial of 1944. The Smith Act of 1940 was used unsuccessfully to prosecute the defendants. It was used later in the 1940s to indict and convict leaders of the U.S. Communist party. (BSLOC_2014_13_74)
