Louisa May Alcott, ca. 1870-75, in a photo portrait by George Kendall Warren of Boston, at around age 40. Alcott, was the author of the classic 1868 novel, Little Women. Her father was a somewhat unstable transcendentalist educator. Louisa occasionally associated with his friends, literary giants, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Margaret Fuller, and Julia Ward Howe. 19th century albumen photograph with digital color
