Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton, fought in the British Southern campaign during American Revolution. He led cavalry in the battles of Charleston, Waxhaws, Camden, Cowpens, and Guilford Courthouse. He surrendered with Cornwallis at Yorktown. Mezzotint is a copy of a 1782 portrait by Sir Joshua Reynolds
