Major Allan Pinkerton, head of the Union spy agency called The Secret Service with four top hatted gentlemen, at Antietam, Oct. 3, 1862. The men are identified in the original caption as: Messrs. Allan Pinkerton, Hammond, Fargo, and Hall. Pinkerton led the Secret Service Department of the Army of the Potomac.
