Mary Tippee (also Mary Tebe) was a vivandiere with 114th Pennsylvania Infantry, the Collis Zouaves. As a vivandiure, she would have worked as a sutler, a store keeper on an army post who sold extra provisions to soldiers. She took whiskey to soldiers during battles. Tippee wears the zouave uniform of her company, with a knee-length skirt over the men's pants. Photo by Charles and Isaac Tyson, 1863
