Mexican American War. Battle of Churubusco, August 20, 1847. During the US Armys approach to Mexico City, they invaded through rough land south of the city. The battles cost the Mexican force 3, 000 casualties to wounds and disease. Upon surrender, 72 Irish-American men of the San Patricios Battalion, were court-marshaled by the United States Army as deserters, of whom 50 were executed
