The native American town of Secoton was located on the Pamlico River in present-day North Carolina. This engraving is based on John Whites 1585 watercolor made during an expedition sponsored by Sir Walter Raleigh. In 1590, Theodor de Bry published this, and other White images, in Thomas Hariot's, A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia
