The old 1871 Grand Central Depot was renovated
The old 1871 Grand Central Depot was renovated between 1898 and 1900, and renamed Grand Central Station. Three stories were added and the building was updated with an entirely new faade. The train yard was rebuilt to reduce congestion and turn-around time for trains. Photo is taken looking west down 42nd street
