Old Capitol prison, Washington, D.C. 1861-65. It previously served as the temporary Capitol of the United States from 1815 to 1819, then as a boarding house, and school. During the US Civil War, it was a prison for captured Confederates, political prisoners, spies, misbehaving Union officers, prostitutes, and finally, some suspects of the assassination of President Lincoln. Before its demolition in 1929, it housed the headquarters of the National Womans Party
