Panic, fighting, and death in the streets of Algiers during bombardment by Spanish and allied warships from Portugal, Malta, and Naples, c. 1783-84. They attacked in retaliation for depredations of Barbary corsairs based in Algiers, causing massive damage and deaths, but which also resulted in a June 1786 treaty between the warring parties, and temporary relief from Algerian pirates enslavement of European captives
