The Paxton Expedition, Inscribed to the Author of the Farce, 1764, political cartoon by Henry Dawkins. The Paxton Boys, were vigilante murderers of peaceful native Americans in eastern Pennsylvania shortly after the French and Indian War. This engraving depicts about 500 vigilantes marching on Philadelphia to kill 140 Moravian Indian refugees sheltered in the city. Royal troops block their advance and they received official amnesty in exchange for their retreat. A satirical poem interprets the events
