A pioneer family in Loup Valley, in central Nebraska, north of the Platt River, ca. 1886. As the Union Pacific Railroad was built, more settlers followed. This family settled in the mid-1886 when the Loup valley enjoyed a series of wet years. When six dry years followed (1890-1896), farmers adjusted by planting dry weather crops and the population grew for several decades
