A plane-load of Christmas presents from the USA reaches its destination via the Berlin Airlift in Dec. 1948. The Soviet Union blockaded all land traffic to the British, French and US occupation sectors of the city, for 11 months, from June 24, 1948 and May 12, 1949. American, British, French, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, and South African air forces flew over 200, 000 sorties in one year, providing the city with fuel and food, until the failed blockade was lifted (BSLOC_2021_3_43)
