Polar aviators Richard Byrd and Floyd Bennett in fur on Spitsbergen Island, Norway. On May 9, 1926, they flew from Spitsbergen (Svalbard) to the North Pole and back in a Fokker Tri-motor monoplane, covering 1, 360 miles in fifteen-and-a-half hours.
