President John Kennedy meets with U.S. Air Force RB-47 pilots released from the Soviet Union. Capt. Freeman Olmstead, the co-pilot, and Capt. John McCone, the navigator, survived when their plane was shot down by a Russian MiG-19 over the Barents Sea. Four other flyers, all electronic warfare officers, were killed.
