Primo Carnero, wearing World's Heavyweight Championship
Primo Carnero, wearing World's Heavyweight Championship belt, Oct. 13, 1933. Carnera held the title for nearly a year, until suspicions about fixed fights led his gangland backers to desert him by setting up Carnera's famous defeat at the hands of Baer on June 14, 1934. Budd Schulberg's 1947 novel, The Harder They Fall was a fictional version of Carnero's story. He wrote the screen play for the movie version, On The Waterfront'. (BSLOC_2013_9_29)
