Quanah Parker, Principle Chief of Comanche
Quanah Parker, Principle Chief of Comanche Indians, ca. 1885, stands in front of a teepee, holding eagle feathers used in prayer. He was a fierce warrior who became a pragmatic assimilationist, for which federal agents appointed him the Comanche chief in the 1880s. He did not reject the Comanche traditions, as he continued to maintain several wives, his long braids and tribal beliefs
