Russian cosmonaut Valentina Nikolayeva-Tereshkova
Russian cosmonaut Valentina Nikolayeva-Tereshkova with her one-year-old daughter, Alyenushka. Valentina married cosmonaut Adrian Nikolayeva shortly after she became the first woman to be launched into space. Valentina became a prominent member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and remained politically active following the collapse of the USSR in 1991. (CSU_2015_11_1422)
