Ruth Nichols, co-piloted the first non-stop flight from NYC to Miami, in Jan. 1929. She flew with pilot Harry Rogers, her instructor. Later in the year she was one of the 20 competitors in the Women's Air Derby. In World War II she served as a lieutenant colonel in the Civil Air Patrol (BSLOC_2016_10_146)
