Scene at the beginning of the Chicago Race Riot at a Lake Michigan beach, July 27, 1919. An African-American teenager, Eugene Williams, drowned after stoning by white youths when he drifted into the unofficial segregated White section. The riot began when police refused to arrest the white man eyewitnesses identified as instigating the stoning. (BSLOC_2015_16_159)
