Second Seminole War, 1835-42. Battle of Ouithlacoochie, aka Battle of Withlacoochee, Dec. 31, 1835, was fought on the Withlacoochee River in west-central Florida. Days after the Dade Massacre, South Carolina soldiers struggled to cross the Withlacoochee River. When only part of the 750 soldiers was across, they were attacked by 250 Seminoles led by Osceola. Seminole casualties are unknown. Of the soldiers led by Gen. Richard Call, 4 were killed and 59 wounded
