Seth Kinman, 1864, photo by Mathew Brady Studio. Kinman was a California hunter, trapper, humorous entertainer, fiddle player, tall tale-teller, novelty chair builders, and possibly one of the numerous participants in the genocide of the California Indians. Kinman arrived in California for the Gold Rush, living there until his death from a gun accident in 1888. Among his tall tales were stories of hunting Indian, which occurred frequently in California in the frontier days of the second half of the 19th century
