Shah of Iran after an assassination attempt on Feb. 4, 1949. Fakhr-Arai fired five shots from ten feet away but only grazed his check with one bullet. Fakhr-Arai was instantly shot by nearby officers. The Communist Tudeh Party was officially blamed, but it is suspected that the assassin was a member of the fundamentalist Islamic Fada'iyan-e Islam.
