The Shot Heard Round the World, by Domenick DAndrea, National Guard Heritage Painting. American Revolution, Battle of Concord, April 19, 1775. The Massachusetts Militia, commanded by Major John Buttrick, skirmished with British soldiers guarding the North Bridge into Concord. Three British shots were fired, killing one and wounding another. The Minute Men fired back, wounding 4 British officers and 7 enlisted men, two mortally. The British pickets fell back, joining their main force in Concord where they destroyed gunpowder and arms
