St. Francis Hotel is still standing after the April 18, 1906, San Francisco earthquake and fire. At upper left, the landmark hotel on Union Square would be rebuilt and re-opened in 1908. The St. Francis, a new building with a steel frame, is surrounded by older, now totally destroyed wood and masonry structures (BSLOC_2017_17_23)
