Thor Heyerdahl he sailed through floating globs of oil for 43 of the 57 days of his RA II voyage. On Nov. 8, 1971 he testified to the U.S. Senate Oceans and Atmospheric Subcommittee on the destruction of the oceans'. The RA II sailed from Safi, Morocco, to Bridgetown, Barbados, in 1970.
