Toussaint Louverture began his military career
Toussaint Louverture began his military career as a leader of the 1791 slave rebellion in Saint-Domingue, aka Haiti. What began as the slave insurgency, became a revolutionary movement. In the complex military and political situation, he consolidated his leadership in 1801. This French lithograph celebrates his greatest accomplishment, the Constitution of the Haitian Republic
