Toussaint Louverture on horseback, ca. 1800. He led insurgent Africans slaves against Spanish and French rulers. As Haitis leader he entered into a French protectorate in 1801, but was betrayed and died in a French prison in 1803. This print was published in France part of a series of portraits of generals of the French Revolution
