In the foreground is Fort Walker, still garrisoned by Confederates under fire from Union ships. Union ships sailed in an eclipse, each firing on Forts Walker and Beauregard as they steamed past for three hours. When firing ceased, the guns of Fort Walker silent, for its garrison had evacuated
