Vito Genovese, American gangster, June 2, 1945, after arriving in New York by ship from Italy. Military police arrested Genovese in Italy during an investigation of his Italian black market ring. On learning he was a U.S. fugitive for the 1934 Boccia killing, he was returned to NYC and arraigned on murder charges. Charges against Genovese were dismissed on June 10, 1946, after the two key prosecution witnesses were murdered. (CSU_2015_9_741)
