Volga Germans in Russia in Ca. 1910-1930. In 1941, after the Nazi German invasion, the Soviet government deported 512, 000 Volga Germans to Siberia and Kazakhstan. They came to Russia in the 18th century when Catherine the Great invited Europeans (except Jews) to settle in Russia where they would be allowed to maintain their language and culture.
