On his third voyage to the New World, 1498-1500, Christopher Columbus, and his brother, Bartholomew, are arrested in Hispaniola in August 1500. They were sent back to Spain in chains for prosecution. His royal patrons, Ferdinand and Isabella, restored his freedom and property, but revoked his governorship of the West Indies
