Widow Lavinia Baker and the five surviving children of Frazer Baker. Baker had been appointed postmaster of the Lake City, North Carolina, a largely African American town. On Feb. 22, 1898, a White mob set fire to his house, murdered Baker, and killed their baby. His wife and five surviving children received bullet wounds.
