William S. Knudsen is sworn in as Lieut. General by Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson. Jan. 29, 1942. In 1938-39, his company, General Motors, was investigated by FDR's Monopoly Committee'. Two months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he had broad powers to plan and expedite war production. (CSU_2015_8_567)
