World War 1. Somme Offensive. Canadian soldiers fighting at Courcellette, Sept. 15, 1916, around the sugar refinery. Men lobbed bombs from behind the cover of parts of the destroyed refinery. The battle was a short, fierce engagement and when the Germans retreated, the refinery was captured by the 21st Battalion, who took 150 German prisoners. (BSLOC_2013_1_129)
