Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United
Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United States, served from 1849 to his death on July 9, 1850. General Zachary Taylor gained fame in the Mexican-American War. English-American painter, William Garl Browne Jr. depicted General Taylor in an encampment with his staff officers near Monterrey, Mexico, in 1847. The painting was commissioned by a Taylor political supporter to position Taylor as a candidate for the US presidency in 1848 (BSIC_2020_12_36)
