Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United States, served from 1849 to his death on July 9, 1850. General Zachary Taylor gained fame in the Mexican-American War. English-American painter, William Garl Browne Jr. depicted General Taylor in an encampment with two of his staff officers near Monterrey, Mexico, in 1847.
