Edward IV meets Elizabeth Woodville by Matania
The first meeting between King Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville, imagined by Fortunino Matania, where she, according to legend, waits to petition him with her two sons underneath an oak tree. Matania pictures Elizabeth very much as a damsel in distress. Edward of course, is transfixed by her beauty and the pair marry in secret on 1 May 1464
