Asakusa District, Tokyo, Japan
For most of the twentieth century, Asakusa was the major entertainment district in Tokyo. The rokku or "Sixth District" was in particular famous as a theatre district, featuring famous cinemas such as the Denkikan. In the background can be seen the Ryounkaku Tower, a 12-storey octagonal tower built in 1890 and designed by British engineer William Kinnimond Burton, who spent most of his career in Japan
