Bethune, France - La Grand Place - The Square. Notable amongst the landmarks of Bethune is the belfry, one of the finest in Northern France. The square structure was surmounted by a wooden campanile dating from the 14th century. It was however literally beheaded by the First World War bombing of 1918, leaving only the construction dating from the 16th century intact today
