France - Gerardmer - Woodmen with sledges
Gerardmer - a town in northeastern France, near the German border. It's known as a ski resort, with tree-lined slopes which fed a thriving timber industry. The Schlitteurs pictured are heading up the mountain side (Col de Grosse Pierre) carrying sledges to transport wood down slopes to the lower levels
