Istanbul, Turkey - Sublime Porte. This in former time led to Palaces and offices of the Grand Vizier - the Ottoman Prime Minister. First Palace built on this site in 1564. From that time onwards most of the business of the Ottoman Empire was conducted here between the Sublime Door, hence this gateway came to represent the Government itself. Ambassadors were acredited to the Sublime Port rather than the Ottoman Empire. Situated near the Topkapi Sarayi
