Istanbul, Turkey - The Turkish Republic Monument
Istanbul, Turkey - The Turkish (Taksim) Republic Monument. The Symbol of the Republic - where all the demonstrations take place. Two of the figures depicted on the monument - Mikhail Firunze and Kliment Voroshilov were Soviet Russian aides to the Turkish National Movement during the Independence War. Their place in Turkish history was all but erased during the Stalin era as comrades turned to enemies, but the truth ans feeling of national pride regarding these two individuals and the monument itself has now been reversed
