Launch of the HIJMS Kongo at Barrow-in-Furness
Launch of the HIJMS (His Imperial Japanese Majesty's Ship) Kongo by Madame Koike, first Battleship of the Kongo Class and the last Japanese Capital Battleship built outside of Japan. Built at Vickers Naval Construction Works at Barrow-in-Furness - launched on 18th May 1912. The last Battleship to be torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the Pacific in WW2 (by the USS Sealion) on 21st November 1944
