Lone Pine Cemetery - Ari Burnu, Turkey
The main Australian Memorial at Gallipoli commemorates 3268 Australian and 456 New Zealand soldiers, who have no known graves. Also 960 Australian and 252 New Zealand sailors who were buried at sea. The Memorial is located on top of the Turkish trenches which were taken by the Australians during the Battle of Lone Pine. It was designed by Sir John Burnet, principal architect of the Gallipoli Cemeteries and is made of Turkish limestone
