Montserrat is an island which is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean, specifically in the Leeward Islands, part of the chain known as the Lesser Antilles, in the West Indies. The 1899 Atlantic hurricane season featured the longest-lasting tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin on record. The most significant storm of the season was Hurricane Three, nicknamed the San Ciriaco hurricane. Impact was severe in Montserrat, with nearly every building destroyed and 100 deaths reported
