Mosaic Fountain, Casa della Fontana Grande, Pompeii, Italy
Mosaic Fountain in the Casa della Fontana Grande, discovered at the site of the town Pompeii, Italy, destroyed in the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. The large fountain is decorated with coloured mosaics and compositions made of glass paste tiles. Rows of shells running all round the nymphaeum form a highly original decoration which is completed by two large theatrical masks embedded in the bases of two columns
