Railway Bridge Collapse (3/3)
The collapse of Bridge 20 at Auchtermuchty due to the excessive weight of a 26-ton tractor trailer carrying a 30-ton caterpillar-track digger. A railway bridge attendant James Coyle, of Winchburgh, West Lothian, was killed in the disaster. A M Carmichael, the owners of the truck, were fined £1 for failing to make clear their intentions of transporting a weight of over 12 tons over the bridge on 17th July, 1950
