A victory celebration card showing British Commanders in South Africa at the end of the Second Boer War (1899-1902) (from left): Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts VC (1832-1914), Field Marshal Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener (1850-1916) and General Sir Redvers Henry Buller VC (1839-1908) who served as Commander-in-Chief of British forces in South Africa during the early months of the Second Boer War and subsequently commanded the army in Natal until his return to England in November 1900
